In this first volume, Chee introduces you to his artistic theories, Taoist philosophy and the four creative principles that guide his watercolor work. Chee then explains the skills and methods you'll use throughout the six-video series.
This introduction serves as a primer for the five styles you'll learn: traditional watercolor, saturated wet technique, crinkling technique, marbling technique and mono-printing plus painting. Chee participates in an intimate conversation covering everything from his background and teaching methods to survival as an artist to the future of art. The workshop is divided into two parts.
PART 1: In the first part you learn the four creative principles Chee has developed over his 38 years of intensive study, principles he adheres to faithfully. Chee shows you how to create your own bank account of creative imagery, with glimpses into his sketch book and painting studies. Chee presents and explains the importance of his six different techniques with beautiful examples of each style. Each approach has evolved to best express his feeling toward a specific type of subject.
PART 2: In the second part of this workshop you join a conversation with Cheng-Khee. The conversation covers an important and diverse array of topics including background, mentors, influences, jurying art shows, East meets West, inspirational factors, personal style and consistency, teaching workshops, Chee's greatest aspirations and wisdom for beginners, just to name a few.
