Award-winning artist Eric Wiegardt (AWS, NWS) takes us into his world of painting loosely using a street scene as the focal point of the hour plus demo.
Wiegardt begins by telling us that there are several things specific to painting a street scene and within the context of “painting loose,” “painting quickly” and adding lots of “dynamic action,” he leads us through painting buildings and windows, street foliage, people and skies as a part of the overall design scheme.
In addition to the main lessons covering everything from brush and paint selection through figure shapes, shadows and the character of a tree, the video also features an artist bio section, an interview with the artist and a photo gallery of many of his paintings that will undoubtedly serve as additional inspiration.
Eric Wiegardt, a native of Washington state, grew up near the small town of Oysterville. Following a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Washington, he graduated from the famed American Academy of Art in Chicago where he studied under his mentor, Irving Shapiro. He returned to his home town in 1985 to open Wiegardt Studio Gallery in the Victorian home built by his oyster pioneering great grandfather. With over 20,000 copies sold internationally, Eric Wiegardt’s book “Watercolors Free & Easy” has influenced countless artists. Now available in a new edition, it can continue to teach both professional and beginning watercolor artists. Featured in many books on watercolor, Wiegardt has served as a judge as well as lectured and taught in the United States and Europe. His original watercolors are in over 3000 private and corporate collections.
