Top artist with vision problems exposes an easy-to-learn painting system, proven to create head-turning landscapes.
Some of the most important artists of all time were visually imparred.
Leonardo DiVinci’s eyes turned outward with a disease called intermittent exotropia, meaning he could only see objects in 2D shapes.
French artist Edgar Degas, who is considered one of the founders of the French Impressionist movement, had a retinal degeneration condition and photosensitivity, affecting his central vision.
Claude Monet, inventor of Impressionism, developed cataracts that affected his color perception and vision acuity. Colors often looked muddy and had a yellowish tone to them, which he found highly frustrating.
Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn, considered one of the greatest artists in art history had a condition called stereoblindness, which impacted his depth perception.
Impressionist artist Mary Cassatt began to lose her sight at age 55 was diagnosed with cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.
Russian legend Ilya Repin and legendary artist Vincent VanGogh were both believed to be colorblind.
In every case, these artists needed to develop systems to overcome their vision problems and still create great paintings.
Artist Kevin Macpherson has had poor vision his entire life. Rather than let that stop him, he embraced it. He actually saw the landscape as patches of color – as a mosaic. This immediately helped him to see the weights, intensity, and relationships of colors in the landscape.
Did it slow him down?
Absolutely not. Kevin Macpherson’s career has spanned 40 years. He has had his own TV show, has authored best-selling art books, and has been in about every major show you can imagine. He is considered the best of the best and is a living legend.
There is no doubt that Kevin is brilliant, but one of the reasons his paintings stand out and win top awards is that he invented a system, which he follows for every painting.
This system, which he calls the “magic grid” is so simple you’ll wonder how you lived without it, and it forces creative decisions that make your paintings stronger. He considers it the secret to his success.
In this new art instruction tutorial video, The Ultimate Master Class Volume 1: The Magic Grid: Landscapes, Kevin will amaze you. Take a look:
“Anyway we can train our brain to see abstract qualities, we get closer to becoming a more effective painter.”
- Kevin Macpherson
Though Kevin had to invent a system to compensate for his poor vision, it turned out to be one of the most important painting discoveries in modern history.
It was a huge advantage to NOT get wrapped up in the detail.
Most artists get stuck in the detail of the things in the scene. For example, the details in the grain of the fence, or the architectural details of the farmhouse.
These things fade away when Kevin paints. Instead, he focuses on the colors and shapes. The imagination of the viewer does the rest. The result is award winning paintings.
As Kevin’s career advanced, he began teaching other artists how to see the landscape as abstract color, and to NOT look at the ‘things’ that make up the landscape. This is a non-traditional way of looking at the world.
And, speaking of the world, Kevin Macpherson has taught artists in thirty-five different countries! He has trained thousands of artists. Now, he can be your guide and teacher.
During his 40 years of experience, he has won numerous awards. Here are some more fascinating details about Kevin Macpherson:
“I control the viewer, even though they don’t know it.”
- Kevin Macpherson
How to control the viewer?
Kevin shows exactly how this is done with his highly skilled use of The Magic Grid. Beginning with his underdrawings, Kevin is guiding exactly where the eye of the viewer will go.
He compares it to taking a viewer on a trip. They must follow a map. The map has intersections and Kevin guides the viewer through the trip by helping them navigate from one street to the next, controlling every move.
No more accidental painting passages that need to be redone. This system will lead the viewer eye and give them a joyful painting experience.
Not JUST the Magic Grid but
Kevin Macpherson’s Five Keys of Color
In this new video, Kevin shares his specific views on color
In this video, Kevin reveals which colors fight each other. This trio of colors does not work well together and if you put them together, they will subtly destroy your painting. This is the reason that so many artists create paintings that just feel like they are lacking something. The color-fighting is likely the cause. You’ll learn how to avoid this fight so that your paintings are met with wide acclaim.
Often artists associate a specific color with a feeling. Kevin believes this is WRONG! There is no feeling with a specific color. Color only has feeling and meaning when a color is NEXT to another color.
As Kevin puts it, the way the colors talk to each other CREATES the meaning. In this video, he’ll show you exactly how to make your colors talk the right language.
When painting outdoors in Plein Air, you are washed with color. The yellow of the sun will tend to cast its color over all the items in your landscape. This also happens with the bright blue of the sky. When you become highly observant of these massive effects, your ability to capture and mix the right colors will be at a whole new level. And if you don’t paint outdoors but paint from photos, understanding this will make your paintings believable.
One of Kevin’s keys is to use just a few colors. He will mix them until the color “feels” right. While it might sound difficult to teach a ‘feeling’, Kevin’s demonstrations are so clear and accurate, he helps you to know when the feeling of your color is right. With practice, you’ll become a master at it.
There’s a magic that is captured by Kevin when he paints Plein Air. Notice the shadows. The light colors. The dark colors. The edges. Notice WHERE your eyes went. In this painting, you can almost smell the sea air and feel the breeze along the coastline. This is an experience shared.

What other artists like you are saying about
Kevin Macpherson’s new video:
The Ultimate Master Class Volume 1: The Magic Grid: Landscapes
“I couldn’t believe it. I have been painting for years and I have my go-to colors when I’m painting En Plein Air. But after watching Kevin’s video, I am choosing and mixing differently. I’m also using some shadows and edges differently. Peers of mine are starting to give me unexpected compliments! I’ve found the secrets I needed from Kevin Macpherson.”
- Bill, Houston, TX
“Well, I’m fairly new to painting landscapes, so I wasn’t too sure about learning from such an advanced master like Kevin. But all my fears were crushed quickly when he had me laughing (and learning) so quickly. I’m so glad I got Kevin’s video. I’m already ahead of my friends who started painting when I did! - Cindy, Chicago, IL
“I paint the picture I want to paint.”
- Kevin Macpherson
Be true to yourself
Kevin believes there is a power, an intensity, a magic that comes through a painting when you are painting what YOU want to paint.
It may seem selfish at first, but it really isn’t. When you are painting what inspires you, you’re sharing that inspiration. You are sharing that experience.
Painting is sharing a sunset
He compares it to viewing a beautiful sunset. If you’re by yourself, yes, it’s still beautiful. But, if you can share that experience with someone else, someone you love, it takes on a whole new meaning.
That’s what Kevin believes an inspired painting can do. It is a way to share an experience with the viewer of your painting. So, he approaches his teaching this way. You’ll learn how to capture that experience. He’ll teach you the colors, the edges, the lighting, and the shapes. Then, when tied together using his Magic Grid, the entire painting comes to life.
Transform Passion into Praise
With Kevin’s teaching, you’ll find that missing ingredient in your paintings. Soon people will be complimenting you on how amazing your paintings are. And they’ll begin buying them (if you’re willing to part with them!).
This isn’t crazy talk. Kevin’s career is proof.
Cheap paint mixed with creativity
It’s much less about technique or tools and more about what inspires you. For example, when Kevin was starting out, he used food coloring to make his own paint. It was cheap and he didn’t have much money. But nothing could stop his creativity from pouring onto the canvas.
He completed his entire college degree with food coloring for paint and some
cheap thrift store paints
. The power is in the passion for painting. Kevin shares his with you. And, believe me, you’ll notice it instantly!
