If you’ve ever stood before a beautiful landscape feeling overwhelmed by what to paint first...

…or worse, created a painting that ended up looking like “just another landscape” instead of something with power and presence...

…you’re about to discover why.

The difference between forgettable “wallpaper art” and paintings that command attention isn’t just technique…

It’s about what happens before you even pick up your brush.

Most artists immediately dive into details — painting every blade of grass, every leaf, every cloud…

…only to create flat, unfocused work that takes forever to complete and fails to capture what truly moved them about the scene.

But what if you could approach your landscape paintings with absolute clarity about what matters most?

Award-winning acrylic artist Charlie Easton discovered that the key isn’t about adding more — it’s about focusing on what’s essential.

After years of creating mediocre paintings that “looked like most other amateur art,” Charlie developed a simple 5-question framework that transformed his approach.

“Many artists spend too long on the unimportant details,” Charlie explains. “They go straight to the heart of the periphery, instead of focusing all their energies and using all their efforts to focus on what’s most important.”

This revolutionary framework, combined with Charlie’s unique P.R.O. mindset (Process-driven, Resilient, and Open), has helped him become one of the youngest artists ever awarded the prestigious SFCA designation by the Federation of Canadian Artists.

The results speak for themselves: faster painting, more authentic expression, and landscapes that, as one critic put it, “get to the heart of the matter... full of dynamism, energy, and movement.”

A treat for fans of landscape painting, no matter their preferred media, Charlie is revealing his complete system in this comprehensive course — a special combined edition featuring both his studio and plein air approaches in one complete package.

In this exclusive Mastering Acrylic Landscapes course, you’ll begin with an in-depth studio session where Charlie walks you through his 5-question roadmap with detailed explanations, PowerPoint presentations, and real-world examples.

Then watch as he applies these principles in two complete demonstrations — first creating a breathtaking forest landscape from start to finish in the studio, followed by a plein air painting session where he tackles the challenges of working outdoors.

Inside this comprehensive course, you’ll discover:

  • The exact 5 questions Charlie asks before every painting that instantly clarify what to focus on and what to leave out — eliminating overwhelm and giving you a clear roadmap for success…
  • The P.R.O. mindset shift that transforms your entire approach to painting (this simple mental framework has students saying, “Charlie has changed the way I think about my art”)...
  • How to identify what’s truly important in any scene, allowing you to paint faster, bolder, and with authentic emotion that resonates with viewers
  • Techniques for using acrylics in versatile ways — from wet-into-wet to glazes and thicker applications — to capture the essence of your subject with maximum impact
  • Two complete demonstrations — one in the studio and one en plein air — where Charlie applies his framework to real-world paintings, showing you exactly how theory transforms into powerful practice
  • The secret to painting landscapes that tell a story rather than simply recording details (this is what makes people stop and truly connect with your work)

Many artists get stuck trying to paint everything they see, leading to flat, uninspired work that takes forever to complete.

Charlie’s revolutionary approach helps you cut through the clutter and create paintings with clarity, purpose, and unmistakable personal style.

“I have Charlie’s 5 questions written on a Post-it note and stuck to my easel,” says one student.

Another says, “Charlie is able to break down his process into an understandable method that can be reproduced again and again. However, my work ends up not looking like his, it looks like mine, and that’s amazing.”

This is your opportunity to stop creating “just another landscape” and start painting acrylic scenes that grab viewers by the collar and command attention.

Scenes that reflect your unique voice and vision.

Scenes that make people feel something.

Are you ready to paint like a PRO?

MEET YOUR NEW INSTRUCTOR:

CHARLIE EASTON!

Meet internationally recognized acrylic master Charlie Easton!

Charlie Easton comes from a distinguished artistic lineage spanning generations — from his mother, a textile designer, to his great-great grandfather, who was sculptor to the king. This rich heritage informs his bold, dynamic approach to landscape painting.

As one of the youngest artists ever awarded the prestigious SFCA (Senior Signature Member) designation by the Federation of Canadian Artists, Charlie has established himself as a commanding voice in contemporary acrylic painting.

His distinctive style strips landscapes down to their essence, creating powerful works that resonate with viewers who have also “felt the insane power of nature.”

Charlie’s work is heavily influenced by the iconic Group of Seven, Canada’s revolutionary plein air painters, as well as contemporary masters like Marcia Burtt and Joe Gyurcsak.

His unique artistic vision has earned him recognition as “a fearless painter” whose work is “full of dynamism, energy, and movement.”

Though he teaches only a few select workshops each year, preferring to focus on his own artistic practice, Charlie recently hosted the first Acrylic Live event for Streamline Publishing — a testament to his growing influence in the acrylic painting community.

When you learn from Charlie, you’re not just gaining techniques, you’re gaining a complete mindset shift that students describe as transformative: “Charlie has changed the way I think about my art, and the way that I approach any subject.”

Introducing Charlie Easton’s Brand NEW Course:

Mastering Acrylic Landscapes

In this comprehensive acrylic painting course, Charlie Easton takes you on a complete journey from theory to practice, revealing his powerful 5-question framework that will forever change the way you approach landscape painting.

This special combined edition brings together two complete painting demonstrations — one in the studio and one en plein air — giving you the complete roadmap to creating bold, authentic acrylic landscapes in any setting.

Here’s what you’ll experience inside this transformative course:

Discover Charlie’s 5-Question Framework for Painting Success

Before you even pick up a brush, Charlie’s 5 essential questions will give you absolute clarity about what to paint, why it matters, and how to approach your subject with confidence. This simple yet profound framework eliminates overwhelm and empowers you to make definitive choices that strengthen your personal artistic voice.

“Learn to commit,” Charlie says. “It’s far better to paint three paintings that are all committed to different narratives than it is to jam all three narratives into one painting. In this way you can paint fast, and your work becomes singular, understandable, and undeniable.”

Master the P.R.O. Mindset for Artistic Freedom

Discover how to approach your paintings like a PRO:

  • Process-driven: Focus on what works rather than perfect outcomes
  • Resilient: Don’t get knocked off course when paintings don’t go as planned
  • Open: Embrace the happy accidents that enhance your painting’s narrative

This transformative mindset creates the perfect foundation for artistic growth — reducing tension, increasing fluidity, and making the entire painting process more enjoyable and successful.

Comprehensive Studio & Plein Air Demonstrations

Watch as Charlie applies his approach to two complete paintings:

Studio Demonstration: “Drawn to the Light” (24 x 30 in., acrylic on stretched canvas)

Experience how Charlie translates his emotional response to a woodland scene near Whistler, BC, Canada, into a powerful, light-filled forest painting that captures the essence of the place rather than every detail.

Plein Air Demonstration: “The Bathtub at Bull Creek” (12 x 16 in., acrylic on board)

Follow Charlie outdoors as he puts his framework into action in real time, managing the challenges of painting on location while creating a cohesive, expressive landscape.

In-Depth Acrylic Techniques & Practical Applications

Throughout both demonstrations, Charlie shares powerful techniques for working with acrylic paint, including:

  • How to use thick paint, thin paint, glazes, veils, and dry-brushed areas for maximum impact…
  • Brushwork techniques that create energy and movement…
  • Color mixing strategies that enhance your painting’s emotional impact…
  • Value and edge control to create depth and focus…

Essential Theory Made Practical

While Charlie dives deep into important theoretical concepts like form, perspective, and shape relationships, he never leaves you wondering how to apply them. Every lesson is designed to make these principles immediately useful in your own work.

“Theory can sometimes be dry,” Charlie acknowledges, “but the application of theory can be invigorating. In this video I do cover a lot of ground — in my view the most important aspects of interpreting a scene, and of painting in acrylics — so stick with it, and you’ll ultimately see the theory in practice as I paint a scene which incorporates all the theoretical learnings.”

Whether you struggle with knowing where to start, lack confidence in your artistic decisions, or simply want to paint faster and more authentically, Charlie’s approach provides the perfect foundation for growth!

LESSON PLAN
(PART 1: Before You Start Painting)

Video length: 1 Hour

Introduction

Meet Charlie Easton, a committed painter who works in various media but particularly loves acrylics for their versatility, practicality, and immediate impact. Charlie introduces his approach to acrylic landscapes and previews what you’ll learn in this comprehensive course. Discover how his process will help you achieve your painting dreams, translating that moment when you look at a scene and think, “I want to paint this!” into a successful, powerful landscape that tells your unique story.

PRO Mindset

Discover Charlie’s transformative P.R.O. mindset — Process-driven, Resilient, and Open — that will fundamentally change how you approach your paintings. Charlie demonstrates how releasing tension and stress creates more fluidity and enjoyment in your painting process, ultimately resulting in better artwork. Learn why technical skill alone isn’t enough and how adopting this professional mindset creates the perfect foundation for artistic growth. This simple mental framework has students saying, “Charlie has changed the way I think about my art.”

The 5 BIG Questions

Explore the CRUX of Charlie’s painting process — his revolutionary 5-question framework that applies to all mediums. This simple yet profound system helps you identify what truly matters in any scene and gives you absolute clarity about what to paint. You’ll discover how these 5 questions could lead you to creating your BEST work yet. The last question is particularly empowering, as it helps you remove overwhelm and focus only on the essential elements that create powerful, focused landscapes. This section is a MUST-WATCH for artists of all levels and mediums!

Understanding Reality

Delve into six essential concepts that help you answer “What’s actually happening in the scene?” Charlie guides you through understanding form (”Everything Is an Egg”), linear perspective (“Everything Is a Box”), aerial perspective using his “Box of Distance” concept, shape identification, shape relationships, and how reference differs from reality. Learn Charlie’s unique approach to perspective that makes viewers feel part of the scene rather than mere observers. This technical foundation gives you the tools to translate a three-dimensional reality into a compelling two-dimensional painting with confidence and authenticity.

Acrylics & Materials

Explore the unique properties of acrylic paint that allow for both oil-like application and watercolor transparency. Charlie shares essential tips for working successfully with acrylics, including how to keep your paint moist, the importance of using plenty of paint to maximize wet-on-wet techniques, proper paint disposal considerations, and the value of consistency in your setup. These practical insights create the perfect technical foundation for the painting demonstrations to follow, helping you make the most of this versatile medium.

LESSON PLAN
(PART 2: PAINTING DEMONSTRATIONS)

Video length: 3 Hours

DEMO 1: IN THE STUDIO
Studio Demonstration Step 1: Ask the 5 Big Questions

Watch as Charlie applies his 5-question framework to the reference photo for his studio demonstration. See how he identifies his focal point (sunlight breaking through trees), explores how the scene makes him feel (uplifted, euphoric), analyzes what’s happening (perspective, form, atmospheric effects), plans what to include to tell his story, and decides what to leave out. This practical application of theory demonstrates how these questions create a clear roadmap for your painting process, helping you develop your unique artistic voice and style through thoughtful observation.

Studio Demonstration Step 2: Paint the Distance

Begin painting with Charlie as he establishes the distant elements of his forest scene. Learn valuable techniques, including colored underpainting for unification, establishing compositional movement, working wet-into-wet, applying veils to enhance light effects, and creating soft edges in distant planes. Discover how to scumble color over dry layers to create shimmer and how to “imply detail” rather than painting every element. Charlie demonstrates how to vignette the scene and apply highlights and darks to create a sense of atmosphere and depth in the distance, setting the stage for the foreground elements.

Studio Demonstration Step 3: Moving Forward

Move into the middle-ground and foreground areas as Charlie creates dimensional space through warmer, darker colors and more angular tree forms. Learn how to maintain consistency with your distant elements while adding gestural marks that support your painting’s story. Discover Charlie’s technique for creating “bounce lines” that guide viewers through the composition like a pinball, and how to accurately represent reflected light. This chapter emphasizes the importance of keeping your painting’s emotional message (in this case, “uplifting”) at the forefront of your technical decisions.

Studio Demonstration Step 4: Drawn to the Light

Develop layers and learn how to add detail that enhances rather than distracts from your focal area. Charlie demonstrates how to handle acrylics’ tendency to dry darker, how to establish movement from darkness to light, and how to apply the “egg” concept when creating form in foliage. Discover why capturing the feeling of your scene matters more than exact replication, and learn techniques for creating depth through overlapping and unifying elements with glazes that reduce visual “jumpiness” in your foreground elements.

Studio Demonstration Step 5: Build & Adjust

Learn the crucial skill of stepping back, assessing your work, and making thoughtful adjustments. Charlie demonstrates how to develop warm and cool relationships, add complexity without distraction, and maintain focus on your painting’s central message. Discover how ongoing critiques help you stay true to your focal point and how glazing techniques can enhance your vignette effect and lead the eye toward the light. These refinement techniques help you maintain control of your composition while building richness and depth.

Studio Demonstration Step 6: The Final Touches

Complete your painting with Charlie’s insightful approach to final assessment and adjustments. Learn how framing your work can help you see what needs attention, and watch as Charlie uses chalk to identify areas requiring refinement. Discover how to make adjustments without sacrificing the spontaneity and joy of your original marks — knowing when to stop is just as important as knowing what to change. Charlie shares how acrylic’s quick-drying nature eliminates the need for a mahl stick and helps you determine when your painting truly feels right.

DEMO 2: En Plein Air
Plein Air Demonstration Intro: Getting a Sense of Place

Why NOT KNOWING your subject can actually get you more in tune with the place, and how to look at your location freshly with the eyes of a visitor if you are more familiar. Charlie gives you tips on how to understand a place more than just by the 2d shapes it has, “When you have a physical reaction to a place it's always a good sign!”

Plein Air Demonstration Step 1: Ask the 5 Big Questions

Use the 5 Questions we discussed earlier in the studio to identify what’s most important about this place and what’s actually happening in the scene so that you can have a plan for what to paint. Identify what you love about it and how it makes you feel, what you can leave in or out to tell the story you want. Learn tips to help you stay on track as you paint.

Plein Air Demonstration Step 2: Commit to the Canvas

In this step, Charlie will “key in the painting” — putting in lightest lights and darkest darks to understand the range of values we will be working with in this scene. You’ll also learn how to manage acrylics in a hot, dry environment — working fast and keeping them wet is key. A common misconception is that acrylic isn’t a very fluid medium, but you’ll learn how to set aside that notion to create beautiful wet-into-wet passages. As you cover the surface with paint, you’ll pick up tips on edges, atmospheric shifts, color temperature, value changes, brushwork and more!

Plein Air Demonstration Step 3: Refinements

Build color and make adjustments at this stage to make your painting FEEL like the subject you are trying to paint. Create depth and reverberation in the water with a veil of color to bring out the reflection of the sky. Use wet-on-dry, scumbling, and wet-into-wet painting to bring out the focal point and refine shapes, values, and edges throughout the painting. Learn how to work quickly and become good at self-critique.

Plein Air Demonstration Step 4: Assess in the Studio

Not one to feel a painting has to be completed on site, Charlie brings the plein air painting back to the studio to assess and make final adjustments that will bring it to a finish, in keeping with the original intent.
