Are your watercolors washed-out and weak?

Do your oils feel stiff and predictable?

Most artists hit an invisible wall when they stick to just one medium.

Watercolorists crave more control and depth…

Oil painters long for more spontaneity and luminosity…

And no matter how hard you try, growth feels slow and frustrating.

Here’s what most artists never realize:

Focusing on just one medium could create invisible boundaries around your artistic growth.

Award-winning artist Brienne M. Brown discovered the fastest way to shatter those walls — by using one medium to strengthen the other.

Inside her brand-new course, Seascapes in Oil & Watercolor, you’ll paint along as Brienne shows you exactly how watercolor’s spontaneity breathes new life into oils, and how oil’s rich layering gives your watercolors more power and depth.

For the first time, you’ll see how a dual-medium approach multiplies your skills — giving you the freedom, confidence, and artistic growth you’ve been waiting for.

Why Most Artists Stay Stuck

If you’ve been painting for years and still feel like your progress is slow, it’s not your fault.

Most artists unknowingly create invisible boundaries by focusing on just one medium.

Watercolorists often feel trapped by the medium’s unforgiving nature, producing paintings that look pale or washed-out.

Oil painters can become rigid and formulaic, missing the freshness and sparkle that could elevate their work.

No wonder growth feels frustrating — you’ve been limiting yourself to only half the picture.

The goal here is to multiply your skills by learning from a different medium.

Brienne’s approach focuses on learning and observation over finished paintings.

This process-over-product method means you can explore both mediums without fear.

That means you can now experiment freely.

You can stretch.

You can grow.

Artists who learn from her approach often have a breakthrough moment.

Their paintings become more controlled and intentional.

They become more competent artists — not just in technique, but in artistic vision, finding that perfect balance between technical precision and artistic expression that defines masterful work in both mediums.

Brienne chose two different seascapes to demonstrate her brilliant approach.

Each has a complete curriculum in rocks, water, foam, and even figures.

Every element teaches you something different about both mediums.

Every brushstroke builds competence across both watercolor and oil — from creating transparent glazes that maintain luminosity to developing confident, decisive marks with presence and depth.

This is your rare opportunity to learn from a master who has proven that cross-medium mastery isn’t just a theory.

Actually ... it may be the fastest path to becoming the artist you always knew you could be — one who creates work with both the luminous glow of masterful watercolor and the rich depth and presence of skillful oils!

All levels are welcome.

The process is proven.

The transformation is real.

Whether you’re primarily a watercolorist seeking more control and depth…

…or an oil painter looking for more spontaneity and luminosity…

…this dual approach will transform how you see and create art!

Are you ready to go beyond your comfort zone and see how high your artistry soars?

In Seascapes in Oil & Watercolor, Brienne M. Brown will show you how to expand your creative range while solving common painting problems unique to both watercolor and oil.

She’ll help you understand the power of plein air watercolors to create dynamic studio oil paintings! MORE than just mere copying, using plein air work as reference in the studio creates a genuine reaction to the experience — capturing both the scene and your emotional response to it.

This course will develop your artistic intuition, allowing you to make confident decisions about every brushstroke, regardless of which medium you’re using.

You’ll learn to trust your instincts, whether you’re managing watercolor’s delicate balance of water and pigment or oil’s rich layering possibilities.

You’ll discover how watercolor and oil painting can enhance each other in surprising ways.

Watercolor’s luminosity and spontaneity can inform your oil technique, while oil’s forgiving nature and depth can transform your watercolor approach.

Brienne will demonstrate this through complete demonstrations of her painting Keyhole Arch from Laguna Beach (painted en plein air) and her studio work Day at Shark’s Harbor.

You’ll see firsthand how plein air watercolor painting can provide inspiration that makes your studio oil painting more exciting and expressive.

You’ll learn to extract the essential elements from one medium that can elevate your work in the other.

  • Bring watercolor’s luminosity into your oils — creating glowing seascapes with depth and atmosphere.
  • Use oil’s forgiving nature to strengthen your watercolors — painting with confidence, even when mistakes happen.
  • Work without pressure — Brienne’s “process over product” approach frees you from the fear of ruining a painting.
  • Capture essential lessons outdoors — and transform them into dynamic studio paintings that feel alive.
  • Build artistic confidence — with every brushstroke, you’ll know why you’re making the choice, not second-guessing.

Instead of feeling boxed in by your medium, you’ll finally create art that’s bold, expressive, and unmistakably yours.

Your Lesson Plan!

Video length: 5 HOURS

Plein Air Painting Watercolor Demonstration

Introduction & Subject Review

In this chapter, Brienne introduces us to the coastal scene in Laguna Beach, California. She explains how this video will help you find the power of plein air to improve your work. You’ll learn that plein air is not just about painting outside — the point is information-gathering, using nature’s lessons to better our paintings. This approach transforms how you’ll think about painting outdoors and improves your studio work.

Value Studies, Plein Air Palette, Color Study, Drawing the Scene

Brienne demonstrates trying different quick thumbnail sketches to find the best composition, emphasizing the importance of planning. She shows how to create simple shapes and notans (light and dark shapes only), then develops a larger version with more value breakdown. Brienne reviews her favorite colors and demonstrates capturing local color through studies with concentration on temperature, value, and creating large shape/value masses. Finally, she shows how to use your value sketch and a mechanical pencil to establish a final drawing of your chosen scene that captures perspective and planes of shapes.

First Wash, Middle Values, Finish the Painting

Brienne demonstrates her unique approach of tinting the entire paper — unlike most watercolorists, who let white paper shine through. She applies light washes of local color to represent “whites,” explaining that you can’t go wrong at this stage, and splatters paint for variety. Moving to middle values, Brienne uses more pigment and less water to capture reflected light, showing how to get the FEEL of color rather than exact matches, and techniques for painting foam quickly with varied edges and color. She finishes by building color and value layers, demonstrating watercolor’s rhythm, creating form, painting rocks, and adding natural-looking people to landscapes.

Studio Painting Oil Demonstration

Introduction & Subject Review and Oil Painting Materials

Brienne introduces us to the LPAPA (Laguna Plein Air Painters Association) Art Gallery, in which she is painting and of which she is a signature member, and shows us the inspiration for the demo: Catalina Island. She presents a reference photo, a watercolor study, and an oil study that are all used to inform this demo. Brienne explains how this video will help you find the power of life observation to improve your work. She describes the differences between watercolor and oil and their advantages, and how they inform one another to help you grow as an artist. Brienne reviews her favorite colors and brushes, and the mediums she uses for her oil paintings.

Drawing the Scene

Take your time and enjoy the process of drawing your scene on toned canvas with paint. Brienne demonstrates that, unlike watercolor, where you are chasing the light or an ever-changing scene, here in the studio you don’t have to hurry — you have your references and can take your time. This relaxed approach allows for more careful consideration of composition and structural elements in your painting.

Color / Value Block In

Brienne adds color, paying attention to the values of her studies to apply paint all over the surface as an initial block-in stage. She demonstrates how to pay attention to shape and planes to create basic forms. Brienne explains that she learned the importance of connecting shapes from doing watercolor, allowing her to concentrate on shape instead of detail, while oil helps her understand color and value more — so EACH MEDIUM informs the other. She shows how to pay attention to color temperature to establish depth and how to stay on track with values by painting darkest darks and lightest lights.

Develop the Painting

Brienne lets the paint set up and steps away for fresh eyes. She demonstrates how drier paint allows for another layer without blending with the paint below and how fresh eyes help identify needed adjustments. Brienne shows how to ask “What’s bothering me?” and work on those things, leaving the rest. She breaks up larger shapes into smaller shapes and adjusts values and temperatures. Brienne explains why you don’t need to clean your brush between color mixes to create colorful grays and demonstrates her “dot and dash” brushwork, techniques for creating the illusion of detail, depth, rocks, grasses, water, foam patterns, and using palette knife and fan brush.

Strengthen the Composition

Brienne demonstrates using dark elements to enhance the composition and lead the eye without being obvious or “too dark.” She reveals how brushes can be compositional tools and shows how to mix and use a variety of greens. Brienne teaches the magic of values — like how adding darks within shadows helps the shadows feel transparent. She demonstrates how to give form to rocks with darks and highlights, creating dimensional elements that strengthen the overall composition.

Finish the Painting

Brienne uses this time for final adjustments. She explains how to identify what might be bothering you — like something drawing your eye to the wrong place in the painting — and offers options to solve it. Brienne demonstrates adjusting color temperatures, value, and shapes, and reducing or adding variety as needed. She ensures the painting’s focal area is working so viewers know where to ultimately go, strengthening as needed and making sure the painting leads them there. Brienne demonstrates using accent colors echoed throughout both watercolor and oil paintings for interest and harmony.

What Brienne M. Brown Will Share Inside

Seascapes in Oil & Watercolor

Expand Your Creative Range Through Cross-Medium Mastery

Most artists hit invisible walls when focusing on just one medium. Watercolor painters become trapped in loose techniques, struggling with control and depth. Oil painters get stuck in controlled methods, missing the spontaneity and luminosity that could elevate their work.

Brienne’s proven system breaks these boundaries by systematically integrating methods from both mediums. You’ll discover how watercolor’s spontaneous color relationships and transparent layering directly enhance oil painting precision, while oil’s controlled techniques and forgiving nature revolutionize watercolor confidence and decision-making.

You’ll see how learning 2 mediums actually creates a “multiplier effect” where each medium strengthens the other. By the end, you’ll approach any landscape scene knowing exactly which medium will best serve your artistic vision, with techniques that transfer seamlessly between both — whether you need watercolor’s atmospheric effects or oil’s rich textural possibilities.

Solve Both Watercolor and Oil Challenges in One Comprehensive Course

This course contains TWO demonstrations; a plein air watercolor painting demo and an oil painting demo. Brienne will walk you through both demos in detail, showing you every step of the way from initial composition decisions to final touches.

You’ll get to see how she solves common painting issues — like maintaining watercolor luminosity while building depth, or achieving loose, expressive brushwork in oils without losing structure. You’ll learn how to turn boring watercolors into dynamic paintings with confident value relationships, how to eliminate “formulaic” oil work through spontaneous color choices, and so much more.

This course gives you the rare opportunity to learn from a master who has successfully bridged the gap between watercolor spontaneity and oil painting precision! You’ll gain insights that would take years to discover on your own through trial and error.
