A very different approach to Plein Air and Knife Painting

I've watched this video 3 times now (giving myself a couple months between viewings to absorb the lessons), and I learn new things with every repeat viewing. Cynthia's playful and intuitive approach to color stands out from traditional methods of painting. Cynthia has no desire to recreate what she sees realistically, but instead wants her painting to work as much as an abstract as it does as a landscape. She shows how to apply knife strokes and color that move your eye all around the painting, yet use the under painting to unify the composition and make the colors sparkle. I love Cynthia's art and I love this video.

Very informative

The dvd was very informative. Cynthia explained what and why she was doing as she went along. Will definitely watch more than a few times.

Palette knife extrordinare.

Cynthia's no nonsense approach to plein air painting is inspiring. She provides some excellent advice for set up and materials. As she demonstrates, she show us how to use undertones to unify the painting. Her knife work makes mixing clean vibrant color easier. I appreciate her tips about composition and advice about making one's own statement from the view before us.

title fairly accurate, but probably need to add that it is ALL palette knife painting

Very interesting technique. Obviously she is great at it. I don't think I'd want my whole painting to be dabs and dots by knife application, but I'm glad to see it done beautifully.

Cynthia Rosen

I've been following Cynthia Rosens work for several years and when I saw that she was creating a new video, I was very excited to purchase one. I've received the video and she has produced a great teaching aid for anyone who is interested in learning from, who I consider, a modern expressionist master. She guides the viewer through her process of perspective, color juxtaposition and composition. I would highly recommend this video to all artist.
