Meet Your Instructor, Dan Marshall!
Fading scenes of rustic farms and working ranches… framed by the beautiful landscapes of Colorado and New Mexico. Those are the scenes that inspire Dan Marshall.
His work is greatly influenced by living in the American West. Growing up on the East Coast and having previously lived in California, his work keeps a strong connection to coastal and nautical life. Regardless of the subject, you can always find his unique view of the Americana aesthetic.
But the professional award-winning artist didn’t come from a painting background.
He started out as a tattoo artist. He has been in the tattoo industry since 1995 and made a name for himself in that scene…
…until he felt burnt out from tattooing.
That’s when he dived into the world of watercolor. He soon realized he was a quick learner, because soon after he started, his name started making rounds in the art community.
In fact, Watercolor Artist Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, American Art Collector and Plein Air Magazine have featured his amazing works of art.
He’s also a regular contributor, writing articles about plein air painting, experiences and watercolor instruction.
Daniel is represented by the Huse Skelly Gallery in Balboa Island, CA. and Scarlowe’s Gallery in Casper, Wy He has also had an exhibition of his work Casper’s at Nicolaysen Art Museum.
Daniel is a sought after instructor, teaching watercolor workshops regularly and demonstrating for art groups throughout the country. He’s used that experience to start a successful online teaching program.
He’s an avid plein air painter, being inspired by and painting most of his works on location. This has helped him to develop a confident style with an immediacy and freshness infused into each painting.
Daniel Marshall is currently based in Denver, Colorado. You’ll usually find him painting plein air from the farms of the plains, to the ranches of the foothills and the peaks of the Rockies.
