Cynthia is a very knowledgeable painter who shares that information freely. I love her bold color choices which she covers the canvas with. Sometimes I get lost as to what she sees as she puts her colors down but in the end it is clear. She is good about telling what color mixes she uses and gives good information about the material she uses. I have taken classes from her and the video is a good reminder of all the techniques she uses.

Far more than a â€œHow to Paint with a Knifeâ€

Cynthia goes through the materials and tools she uses and explains thoroughly how they're used to make wonderful effects that you can't make with brushes. She also explains what functions the different marks serve to compose the piece and lead the viewer's eye where she intends it to go. We see the her entire process â€” from the blank white panel to the finished piece â€” from a live still life set up, as opposed to just recreating a painting she's done before. Cynthia's work is very loose, but each mark is painted deliberately and not rushed. She eloquently explains the thought behind the marks she makes before and after the paint is applied. She covers aspects like warm/cool colors, edges, values, etc.

The DVD also has a revealing interview with her, a part where she discusses the materials she uses, painting tips (where she talks about why and how you should paint the way that works best for you), a sped up version of the demo (great to watch after you watch the main demo to review some of her points), and a gallery of her other beautiful work.
